Tinidazole antiprotozoal with antibacterial action. The mechanism of action is due to the inhibition of synthesis and damage to the DNA structure of pathogens. It is used for trichomoniasis, giardiasis, amoebiasis, infections caused by anaerobic bacteria, mixed aerobic anaerobic infections, Helicobacter pylori radiotherapy (in combination with bismuth preparations and antibiotics). Also, Tinidazole is used to prevent postoperative infectious complications caused by anaerobes.

Indications
•protozoal infections: trichomoniasis, giardiasis, amoebiasis (including hepatic form and amoebic dysentery);
•infections of different locations, caused by anaerobic bacteria, including Peritonitis, endometritis, pyosalpinx, sepsis, wound infections (including the prevention of postoperative anaerobic infections);
•skin and soft tissue infections;
•pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess;
•mixed aerobic-anaerobic infections (in combination with antibiotics);
•cutaneous leishmaniasis, nonspecific vaginitis, acute ulcerative gingivitis;
eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in complex therapy with bismuth preparations and antibiotics).
Contraindications
•hypersensitivity to any of drug component,
•organic diseases of the central nervous system,
•oppression of bone marrow hematopoiesis,
•pregnancy (I trimester),
•breast-feeding,
•age up to 12 years,
•hematopoietic disorders,
•darkening of urine.
When the duration of treatment lasts more than 6 days it is necessary to monitor the peripheral blood patterns. In case of the treatment of trichomoniasis, only simultaneous treatment of both sex partners should be carried out. During treatment with tinidazole and within three days after it’s been discontinued, it is prohibited to drink alcoholic beverages in order to avoid the development of intestinal colic, nausea, vomiting. During the course of treatment, it is necessary to refrain from engaging in potentially dangerous activities that require a high concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
Doses and dosages are prescribed by the treating physician individually, depending on the type of infection and individual patient characteristics.
Side effects
On the part of the digestive system: a decrease in appetite, dryness of the oral mucosa, metallic taste in the mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
On the part of the nervous system: headache, dizziness, fatigue, impaired coordination of movements (including locomotor ataxia), dysarthria, peripheral neuropathy, rarely - convulsions, weakness.
Allergic reactions: urticaria, skin itch, skin rash, angioedema.
Other effects: transient leukopenia.
