Drug Uses
Plendil is a calcium channel blocker, used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Antihypertensive drug Plendil relaxes the blood vessels, thus increasing the blood flow and lowwering the blood pressure.
Because Plendil has no effect on the venous smooth muscle, the antihypertensive drug does not cause orthostatic hypotension (colloquially as head rush).
Calcium channel blocker Plendil is prescribed to adults and elderly patients for treatment of hypertension and prophylaxis of chronic stable angina pectoris. To treat high blood pressure, an initial recommended Plendil dose is 5 mg per day.
Depending on the tolerability and the effect, the daily dose of Plendil can be increased up to 10mg or decreased to 2.5mg. If necessary, therapy with Plendil can be supported with another antihypertensive agent. The recommended maintenance Plendil dose is 5-10mg per day.
Missed dose
If more than 12 hours has passed after a missed dose of Plendil, do not take the calcium antagonist. In this case just return to the regular dosing schedule of Plendil.
More Information
Plendil is completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and immediately provides an antihypertensive effect, which lasts about 2-5 hours. At the systematic application of antihypertensive agent Plendil, substantial control of blood pressure lasts for 24 hours. Plendil is well tolerated by the patients with renal transplant and requires no modification of the recommended dosage in patients with renal impairment.
Storage
Antihypertensive Plendil agent should be stored in a dark place in a tightly closed container, at room temperature not exceeding 25°C.

Warnings
Plendil is recommended to be indicated with caution to the hypertensive patients with heart failure. Coadministration of the calcium channel blocker with beta-adrenergic blocking agents is especially recommended to be avoided.
In some cases, the hypertension treatment in the patients with coronary artery disease may cause significant hypotension and result in myocardial ischaemia. Therefore, the level of blood pressure is recommended to be thoroughly monitored in these patients during the antihypertensive therapy with Plendil. Also the patients with a history of cerebrovascular insufficiency should be careful and try to avoid hypotension.
