Drug Uses
Inderal is a drug for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases possessing antihypertensive, antianginal and antiarrhythmic activity. As the antihypertensive agent, Inderal is used to lower high blood pressure and manage essential hypertension (including in patients with pheochromocytoma).
As an antianginal agent, Inderal is used to decrease angina frequency and increase exercise tolerance. As an antiarrhythmic agent, Inderal is used for:
- control of ventricular rate in patients with rapid ventricular rate and atrial fibrillation;
- adjunctive management of cardiac dysrhythmia caused by anxiety, hyperthyroidism, or by any medicines.
Furthermore, Inderal can be assigned for:
- prevention of common migraine attack;
- management of congenital heart disorders (including Tetralogy of Fallot);
- improvement of overall functional abilities in hypertrophic subaortic stenosis;
- reduction of cardiovascular mortality in patients with definite or suspected myocardial infarction;
- reduction of tremor amplitude in patients with hereditary, senile, and familial essential tremor (does not reduce tremor caused by parkinsonism).
Inderal tablets and capsules are most often prescribed to treat hypertension and (or) angina pectoris. The maximum recommended dose for hypertensive patients is 640mg per day. The maximum doses of Inderal for the management of angina may reach 320 mg per day.
Missed dose
If you do not take Inderal at the scheduled time, take the next dose as soon as you remember. However, if less than 4 hours are left until the next dose; do not take this dose of beta-blocker at all. Do not use extra medicine and do not double Inderal dose to make up the missed dose.
More Information
For control of hypertension, Inderal can be administered in combination with peripheral vasodilators, thiazide or thiazide-like diuretics. The patients with pheochromocytoma are prescribed with Inderal only together with alpha-blockers.
Storage
Inderal should be stored in a cool dry place at controlled room temperature up to 30°C. The container with Inderal tablets or capsules should be kept tightly closed and protected from bright light.

Warnings
To prevent cardiovascular events associated with Inderal withdrawal, avoid sudden discontinuation of antianginal / antihypertensive treatment. Inderal therapy should be stopped gradually, periodically reducing the total daily dose of this beta-blocker.
