Drug Uses
Keflex is a semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat mild, moderate and severe infections in children aged 1 year and older, adolescents and adults. Indications for Keflex use are identical for different age groups of patients.
Keflex can be prescribed for antibiotic therapy
- dental infections;
- bones and joints infections;
- skin, skin structure and soft tissue infections;
- genitourinary tract infections (including acute prostatitis and acute cystitis);
- respiratory tract infections (including nasopharynx, bacterial sinusitis, bacterial pharyngitis, otitis media, tonsillitis).
Keflex exerts antibacterial effect against infectious diseases caused by: beta-hemolytic streptococcal, escherichia coli, haemophilus influenzae, klebsiella pneumoniae, moraxella catarrhalis, proteus mirabilis, staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus pneumoniae and streptococcus pyogenes.
The maximum dose of Keflex for the treatment of severe bacterial infections in adults may exceed 4g per day, in divided doses. For the treatment of severe infectious diseases in children, the maximum doses of Keflex exceeding 100mg a day per each kg of child’s body weight can be prescribed.
Missed dose
If you missed a dose of Keflex, take this antibiotic as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose of Keflex, do not take the missed dose of this antibiotic and return to the initial dosing chart.
Storage
Keflex antibiotic should be stored in a dark place, at controlled room temperature between 15º and 30ºC.
