Drug Uses
Stromectol is a semisynthetic anti-parasitic agent providing an anthelmintic effect. Stromectol pills suppress parasites’ functions, causing paralysis of specific types of parasites and destroying them.
Stromectol tablets are prescribed to patients for treatment of infectious diseases such as onchocerciasis (river blindness) and strongyloidiasis. In rare cases, Stromectol is indicated for combination treatment of crusted (Norwegian) scabies or for monotherapy of sarcoptic scabies.
Stromectol provides a broad spectrum anti-parasitic action, and destroys parasites at all life phases, however acting not against all types of parasites. An anti-parasitic effect of Stromectol is not proved against adult microscopic worms Onchocerca volvulus.
In order to get rid of pests, an adult patient should take at once one to five tablets of Stromectol 3mg. An alternative and more accurate dosing regimen provides for administration of 150 or 200 mcg of Stromectol per kilogram of body weight at a time.
Missed dose
If you were indicated with retreatment of strongyloidiasis or onchocerciasis, and you forgot to take another dose of Stromectol, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose of the anthelmintic agent, if it is time for the next assigned dosage of Stromectol.
More Information
If necessary, repeated doses of Stromectol can be indicated in one year after the first dose, or, rarer, every three months. After intake of Stromectol, the monitor is required to be sure of eradication of parasites.
Storage
Anthelmintic agent Stromectol should not be stored above room temperature to 30°C.
